Skin Wellness: The Benefits of Peat in Skincare

At GROUND, we are inspired by nature and the connection we have with it. While this connection can stem from physically walking in nature to appreciate all that it offers, it can also emerge from using plant based, botanical ingredients in the products we use on our skin and body.

There is no denying the abundance of benefits we can reap from essential oils and the power of aromatherapy, but let's delve deeper into one of the hero products in the GROUND Wellbeing range; Talamh Peat Face Mask. For this product we do not utilise potent aromatherapy but rather the bioactive, botanical extracts of 100% natural & organic, Irish peat.

WHAT IS PEAT?

One of the most distinctive characteristics of Ireland’s natural landscape is its peat bogs. A living tradition, peat continues to play an important role in the day to day lives of the Irish people, in recent years that has made its way into health and wellness, particularly in the form of skincare. Packed with ancient preservative qualities, the rejuvenating properties of Peat have been proven over centuries to help nourish and invigorate the skin. In fact, peat works to restore and rebalance the skin as the acids in peat are very similar to the skin’s natural pH level.

The GROUND peat face mask contains 100% natural, organic, nutrient-rich, peat which consists of three powerful acids: Fulvic acid, which boosts the skin's defence system and improves absorption of oxygen and water; Humic acid, which helps maintain the skin's moisture level; and Hymatomelanic acid, which enhances the skin's texture and assists with healing.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING PEAT ON THE SKIN?

  • Peat boosts blood flow and provides support & remedy for cleansing and detoxifying

  • Peat works to reinvigorate by exchanging harmful positive ions in the skin with rejuvenating negative ions in the peat. These particles are captured by the blood vessels and are carried throughout the body to help revitalise the skin

  • Helps to eliminate visible signs of stressed & damaged skin

  • Peat has been shown to contain various powerful, bioactive ingredients like fulvic acid, humic acid and Hymatomelanic acid

  • Peat helps to improve cell turnover, increasing skin elasticity and tightening pores.

  • Peat is a gentle, mild astringent and an anti-inflammatory

  • The rejuvenating benefits can be attributed to the abundance of essential oils, fatty acids, and lipids. These penetrate the skin, re-establishing its natural pH balance.

HOW DO I USE PEAT IN MY SKIN CARE ROUTINE?

  1. For optimal results, begin by cleansing the skin with the GROUND Restorative Cleansing Balm

  2. Apply a thin layer of the peat mask to the face, neck & decollete.

  3. Allow the mask to rest on the skin for 10 minutes.

  4. Use this time to focus on deep belly breathing. Use this time to soften, relax and invite rest in.

  5. You may notice a tingling sensation on the skin, this is the bioactive acids found naturally in peat working to rejuvenate the skin.

  6. After 10 minutes, rinse off with warm water and a dark cloth.

  7. Apply 4 - 5 drops of your favourite GROUND facial oil to the skin and massage gently.

The Talamh Peat Face Mask is a prominent member of the GROUND Skin Wellness family for good reason. It is the perfect example of wellness from the ground up. When we consider the benefits to using peat in our skincare we must also remember the importance of creating regular, mindful moments around our skincare routines. This is what will elevate the experience and provide even further benefits, not just to our skin but to our overall well being.
